The Great Creativity Turn Off

Interesting take by Shelly Gare, SMH Good Weekend 6Oct18, on the overuse of the word “innovation” on both sides of the street.

Great quote by Mark Dodgson, professor of innovation studies at the University of Queensland Business School, observes, “Companies are really nervous about innovation, even if the people at the top say they want to do things differently. It’s as if companies breed innovation antibodies: every time a new idea comes along, the antibodies attack it.”

The article explains the change in culture in Silicon Valley with the unicorns having an appetite for the fledgling competition. Clearly, the disruptors are worried about being disrupted themselves!  Mediocrity guarantees safety and a pay off for the VCs.
